The 4 Phases of a Real Fitness Transformation (That No One Talks About)
Jul 3, 2025
Let’s be real: everyone wants the results.
But not everyone talks about what you actually go through to get there.
Over the years coaching hundreds of clients through T1DIAL Training, I’ve noticed something that most programs don’t tell you—this journey doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in phases. And if you don’t know what phase you’re in, it’s easy to feel stuck or think you’re doing it wrong.
So, I want to walk you through the 4 phases of real transformation—the ones I’ve seen over and over again, and that I’ve gone through myself.
🔹 Phase 1: The Trigger
This is the “something’s got to change” moment.
For Lou, it was realizing he couldn’t fit in an MRI machine and needed exploratory surgery. For someone else, it might be a scary lab result or the moment they can’t keep up with their kids.
It’s rarely pretty.
But this phase isn’t about being ready—it’s about being willing. And that’s the spark that gets you started.
🔹 Phase 2: The Grind
Now you’re in it. You’ve committed. But man, this is where it gets hard.
You’re showing up. You’re doing the things. But the scale isn’t always moving the way you want, and you start second-guessing everything.
This is the phase where your old identity fights to stay in control.
But this is also where the real change starts to happen.
You’re not just “on a plan” anymore—you’re slowly becoming the kind of person who keeps promises to themselves.
That’s powerful stuff.
🔹 Phase 3: The Groove
You’ve found your rhythm.
You’re no longer obsessed with being perfect—now, you’re focused on being consistent.
Lou hit this phase when he started checking if hotels had gyms. The same guy who used to laugh at people for doing that… now is that guy.
He wasn’t trying to be someone else.
He was just finally letting the best version of himself show up.
🔹 Phase 4: The Growth
This is where you’re not just doing it for yourself anymore.
You start to notice your coworkers asking questions. Your kids are watching. Your partner is inspired.
You stop chasing fitness from a place of shame, and start leading with purpose.
Here’s the truth: this phase never really ends.
You just keep growing, keep evolving, and keep showing up for the life you’re building.
If you’re reading this and thinking,
“Dang… I don’t even know what phase I’m in,”
that’s okay. That’s exactly why I’m here.
Let’s figure it out together.
